Justice For Sunny LaValle

Justice For Sunny LaValle
The Issue
We are requesting that the Broward County Sheriff's Office and Office of the State Attorney open a full investigation surrounding the death of Sunny LaValle, resident of Weston, FL who was senselessly killed on May 23, 2021. Sunny, a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to so many, was lawfully cycling in the bike lane on Bonaventure Blvd that Sunday morning around 8:00AM when she was struck from behind by a reckless driver.
The 24 year old driver, Oion Johnson from Syracuse, NY, reportedly cooperated with BSO during the onsite investigation, and reportedly admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel causing his vehicle to strike Sunny from behind and ultimately killing her. Mr Johnson reportedly admitted to BSO that he was tired as a result of partying in Miami for 3 consecutive days. Mr Johnson left that day with not so much as a ticket, while leaving an entire community outraged over the loss of this young, vibrant mother.
That dreadful morning, Mr. Johnson walked away with no repercussion. No breathalyzer or toxicology was taken, nor were any of the 3 people in the car taken in for questioning.
It is believed that neither the driver or the other 2 passengers called 911 to report the crash. Another cyclist who witnessed the accident called the authorities. It is also believed the Mr Johnson hit Sunny first, before traveling 400 feet in the grassy median. It is also believed that Mr Johnson did not possess a valid drivers license at the time of the accident.
Mr Johnson recorded a 5 minute video of himself drinking and smoking weed at a nightclub in Miami at 1:17am, just 7 hours prior to the crash. He was also spotted in on social media drinking heavily on a charter boat until early evening hours.
Tell the Broward County Sheriff's Office and Office of the State Attorney that you want to see the investigation continued to bring justice for Sunny by signing the petition.
Sign the petition to show your support for the LaValle family, the entire Weston, FL community and on behalf of Florida cyclists who want to see safer roads in South Florida.
