This petition was initiated following the devastating loss of Ricardo Funes-Barajas, a pillar of our community who has tragically lost his life to an impaired driver. The driver in question is Alexi Alexander Pinedaticas, who is currently under arrest. The Funes and Barajas families, severely affected by this sudden loss, are calling for the justice system to hold Alexi Alexander Pinedaticas accountable by not reducing his bail. Statistics show that drunk drivers who are immediately put back on the streets are highly likely to repeat their behavior. A study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that more than half of all drivers arrested or convicted of drunk driving continue to drive even with a suspended license. In our quest for justice, it is paramount that dangerous drivers are kept off the roads, both to respect the memory of Ricardo Funes-Barajas and to prevent any future tragedies committed at the hands of impaired drivers.
