JUSTICE FOR PEPPER

JUSTICE FOR PEPPER
The Issue
After 10 days of searching for Pepper, Tuesday 3rd July was a devastating day, finding out that Pepper was shot because she trespassed on a private property.
Many of us are in disbelief that the owner of the property was allowed to shoot an animal under the Animal Tresspassing Ordinance 1982 unless it is proved that the dog was worrying, wounding or killing their domestic animals or fowl.
This case needs investigating and the ordinance revisiting, where its 42 years old. The firearms ordinance 2020 states that an animal can only be shot if a humane device is used and this also needs to be reviewed and form part of this case.
Another dog lover Hayley said she is so upset and distressed that anyone on St Helena can do such a thing without any thought and what is even more worrying is that from reading the post that it has been suggested that "nothing can be done because Pepper trespassed" which isn't exactly what the ordinance states.
Lets join the owners and dog lovers who want to see justice for Pepper and this case to be fully looked at.
It is very scary knowing that if any dog accidently escapes and wanders onto someone's private land that they could just shoot it believing that the law is on their side. We can't allow people to believe this to be true and get away with it.
