Petition for Justice and Accountability in Coos County
To the Coos County District Attorney and the citizens of Coos County, Oregon:

I am calling on the Coos County District Attorney's Office to take immediate action and carefully reexamine the evidence surrounding allegations of sexual and physical abuse involving my former husband.

I make this petition not only as a survivor myself, but as a mother fighting for justice for my daughters and for any other individuals who may have been harmed.

Over the years, multiple people, including myself, my daughters, and a former girlfriend, have come forward with allegations of abuse. These allegations describe a troubling pattern of behavior that cannot and should not be ignored.

The Coos County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation and gathered evidence related to these allegations. Despite this, I have been informed that criminal charges have not been pursued due to concerns about securing a conviction.

As survivors, we are left asking a painful question:

How many victims does it take before someone listens?

No victim should have to repeatedly relive their trauma, retell their story over and over again, and still feel unheard.

I understand that the criminal justice system has a responsibility to ensure there is sufficient evidence to prosecute a case successfully. However, when multiple individuals independently come forward with similar allegations, those voices deserve to be taken seriously and thoroughly considered.

Like many parents in these situations, I did not know what had happened to my daughters until after the abuse was disclosed. Survivors often remain silent out of fear, shame, manipulation, or trauma. Delayed disclosure is common among victims of abuse and should never be interpreted as a lack of credibility.

The moment I learned the full extent of these allegations, I took action. I gave my statement. I cooperated with investigators. I have continued to advocate for my children and for justice.

I refuse to remain silent.

I refuse to allow fear, stigma, or exhaustion to silence survivors.

This petition is about more than one family. It is about every child and every survivor who wonders whether speaking up will matter.

It is about a justice system that should protect the vulnerable and ensure that allegations of abuse receive the attention and scrutiny they deserve.

The Reality of Familial Child Abuse
Child abuse and sexual abuse frequently occur within families and trusted relationships.

According to national statistics:

• In 2021, approximately 338,747 perpetrators of child abuse were biological parents of their victims.

• Other family members accounted for more than 30,000 additional perpetrators.

• More than 90% of juvenile sexual abuse victims know their abuser, and approximately one-third are abused by family members.

• Sibling sexual abuse is considered one of the most common and underreported forms of childhood sexual abuse.

These statistics remind us that abuse often happens behind closed doors and is frequently committed by someone the victim knows, loves, or trusts.

Because of this reality, communities and authorities must remain vigilant and take reports of abuse seriously.

What We Are Asking
We respectfully urge the Coos County District Attorney's Office to:

Reevaluate the evidence collected in this case.
Thoroughly review all allegations and witness statements.
Pursue charges if the evidence supports prosecution.
Ensure survivors and victims are treated with dignity and compassion.
Demonstrate that Coos County stands firmly for justice, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
Why This Matters
Every time a survivor comes forward and feels ignored, another victim may decide to remain silent.

Every time allegations of abuse are dismissed without adequate consideration, public trust in the justice system is weakened.

Every child deserves safety.

Every survivor deserves to be heard.

Every allegation deserves to be taken seriously.

This petition is not motivated by revenge. It is motivated by a desire for accountability, protection for others, and a belief that survivors deserve better.

We are asking for transparency, action, and justice.
