The Issue

Owen Muteeri, a 28-year-old MSU Social Work graduate, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a robbery he himself survived.

In December 2023, Owen was working a night shift as a security guard when he was attacked, handcuffed, and forced at gunpoint while armed robbers stole USD $238,000 from the premises.
Owen did what any innocent person would do, he reported the crime, even handing in cash the robbers left behind.

But instead of being treated as a victim, the investigation turned on him.

🔍 Why the Verdict Must Be Reviewed
There are serious concerns about how this case was handled:

No direct evidence linking Owen to the robbers.
He was reportedly assaulted by investigators, compromising the fairness of the process.
He was removed from the case due to lack of evidence, then added again after pressure from influential people.
Key details were misinterpreted (e.g., leftover money, items not stolen).
The caretaker’s testimony is highly questionable but went unchallenged.
Despite this, Owen, a hardworking student who completed his final semester and graduated with distinction now faces losing the prime years of his life.

✊ What We Are Demanding
We, the undersigned, call for:

Owen’s conviction to be overturned.
A full, independent reinvestigation by a different police unit.
A fair and transparent appeal process.
Accountability for any investigative misconduct.

💛 Owen Deserves Justice
He worked nights to pay his tuition. He graduated. He cooperated fully.
Nothing about his character or actions suggest guilt only a tragic miscarriage of justice.

📢 Sign this petition and help fight for Owen’s freedom. His life should not be destroyed by an unfair verdict.
