Justice for One Lakh Anganwadi workers of Andhra Pradesh: 42nd Day
The Issue
We are 1,00,000 working women from the state of Andhra Pradesh seeking your help and support in our struggle as we did not have any pay increase for the past 4 and half years and it is difficult to cope up with the inflation and increased rates. Please sign our petition and Be part of our struggle. Spread the word about us.
Around 1,00,000 working women from Andhra Pradesh have been on the roads since 12th December 2023(42 days) sacrificing their personal lives and festivities. We are Anganwadi workers. Anganwadi centers are established to provide basic health care and education in villages. These centers will have an Anganwadi worker and a helper who are women. We started a strike on December 12th seeking a salary hike.
How much are we getting paid?
- The Anganwadi worker is paid 11,500 rupees per month.
- The Anganwadi helper and mini worker is paid 7000 rupees per month.
The last rise in our salary was in July 2019. We work for Children and pregnant women.
What do we do
To KIDS FROM 6 MONTHS - 3 YEARS:
- We take care of the children while the parents can go to work and earn a living.
- We feed the children with nutritious food and engage them in different activities and educational content such as teaching them numbers/alphabet.
- We play a key role in providing basic health care in the rural communities of Andhra Pradesh.
- We take care of the hygiene and cleanliness of the kids, even if they poop vomit etc.
PREGNANCY WOMEN: We conduct awareness programs to educate pregnant women about sanitation and provide them with nutritious food. We take care from the time women get pregnant till post preganancy,
What are we asking for:
There is a price rise for almost everything around us except our salaries. The prices of Transport, Food, Petrol, Electricity, etc have risen. For the past 5 years, we have been paid the same salaries irrespective of the price rise. We demand a raise in salary. We demand gratuity.
Using the Essential Services Maintenance Act(ESMA) and threatening to replace our jobs to sabotage our struggle is sheer Injustice.
In a world where people still have to fight for basic rights, we need each other's support to battle the struggles. It is only possible with us United! Please sign our petition and support us.
