The Issue

On August 9, 2025, our beloved dog Odyssey died during an Air Astana flight from Nha Trang, Vietnam to Almaty, Kazakhstan.
She was a healthy 8-year-old who had traveled with us her entire life, endured hotter climates before, and passed all medical checks.
The autopsy confirmed heatstroke — a direct result of gross negligence during unloading.

We begged for Odyssey to be returned to us quickly, but Air Astana ignored our pleas. After more than an hour in +41°C heat, we were told by a young employee: “Your dog shows no signs of life.”

Air Astana later sent us a template response claiming “no rules were violated” — without any facts, data, or transparency.

We demand:

  1. Air Astana to conduct an independent investigation and publish verifiable data (temperature records, unloading times, CCTV footage, list of responsible staff).
  2. International aviation organizations (IATA, ICAO) to review Air Astana’s practices and check their compliance with global animal welfare standards.
  3. A ban on Air Astana transporting animals in the cargo hold until clear, safe, and humane regulations are established and enforced.
