Update on Nana the Otter
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has signed, shared, and donated so far. We’ve reached 304 signatures, and I’m now aiming for 1,000. Each name brings us closer to ensuring Nana’s heartbreaking suffering—and her senseless death—aren’t in vain. Together, we can make sure this never happens again.
Please keep sharing. Every signature is a voice that says enough is enough.
I will never forget the way she looked at me as I sat beside her, waiting for someone to come. Even now, as I write this, the memory brings tears to my eyes. I feel the weight of having failed her.
We’re supposed to help. We gave them names. We built this world around them. And yet because of the name we assigned to Nana—freshwater otter—she was denied help. She was left to suffer, simply because a classification meant more than compassion.
I will never understand how someone could call me and say, “We’re not coming,” and then hang up—while I sat there beside her, by the ocean, watching her breathe in pain. How can anyone return to their day without guilt after making that call?
We need better. We need people in this field who care—not just about policies or categories—but about life. No animal should suffer for days, starving and in pain, while humans look away.
Please keep helping. Keep fighting for Nana—and for every helpless creature who still needs us.
