Justice for My Cat Nala and Safer Veterinary Practise

The Issue

Petition Title: Justice for My Cat and Safer Veterinary Practices Across the UK

Petition Target: The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and Pets at Home (Vets4Pets)

I’m creating this petition in memory of my much-loved cat, who sadly passed away following a routine spay procedure at a Vets4Pets clinic. I believe there may have been shortcomings in her care that contributed to her death — and I feel strongly that improvements are urgently needed to protect other pets and their owners from similar outcomes.

Spay and neuter surgeries are among the most commonly performed procedures in the UK. They are generally considered safe, but variations in care standards, post-operative protocols, and the level of communication provided to owners can sometimes lead to tragic results.

This petition is not about assigning personal blame. It’s about calling for stronger oversight, transparency, and consistent standards across veterinary practices — particularly large, corporate-owned chains — to help prevent future harm.

I’m asking for:

1. A formal review of the care practices at the clinic involved and similar branches, and greater transparency around cases where outcomes are poor.

2. Stronger regulatory oversight by the RCVS, particularly over larger veterinary groups.

3. Public reporting of surgical complication and success rates by all UK veterinary practices.

4. Legal requirements for standardised post-operative care instructions to be clearly communicated to all pet owners.

5. An improved and accessible system for owners to report concerns about veterinary care and seek proper follow-up.

Pets are family. When we trust professionals with their care, we deserve compassion, competence, and clear accountability. Please sign this petition to support better veterinary standards across the UK — and to help ensure no one else has to endure the pain of an avoidable loss.

I deeply respect the veterinary profession and know that most vets provide excellent care. This petition is not intended to discredit the profession, but to advocate for systemic improvements that benefit everyone.

Disclaimer:

This petition is based on my personal experience and opinions. I do not intend to make legal accusations against any individual or organization. My goal is to raise awareness and advocate for improved veterinary standards and accountability in the interest of animal welfare and public trust.
