On 25th June 2025, our beloved horse Magic was euthanised — without our consent, without veterinary justification, and without even the chance to say goodbye.

He was old — but not suffering. He had been fed that morning, was alert, and was eating. While we were away for a short time, the British Horse Society (BHS), RSPCA, and Cumbria Police entered our property and ended his life without warning.

Our vet — who had cared for Magic and knew his condition — was not contacted until after he had already been killed. They confirmed:

Magic was not in pain. He was not suffering. He did not need to be euthanised.

They took his life behind our backs.

This was not mercy. It was a cruel, malicious, and premeditated act.

Magic was not a welfare case. He was part of our family — loved and cared for every day.

We — his owners — had the right to be there, to make decisions, and to say goodbye. That right was taken from us.

We are suffering deeply — and we will not be silent.

WE DEMAND LEGAL CHANGE

This petition is calling for government and parliamentary intervention to ensure this never happens again. We are demanding:

A full public investigation into the unlawful killing of Magic
Formal apologies and accountability from the BHS, RSPCA, and Cumbria Constabulary
Financial compensation for the emotional trauma caused
New national legislation that mandates:

Animal owners must be contacted before any euthanasia decision is made
A licensed vet must assess the animal and confirm suffering BEFORE action is taken
Owners must be given the legal right to be present during their animal’s final moments

This must never happen again. No other family should have to suffer the trauma of losing a loved animal this way.

Age is not a crime. And no organisation has the right to take a life without consent, cause, or compassion.

Magic deserved better. So do all animals.
