Kurell Wallace is currently incarcerated for legally defending himself against three armed individuals. Yes, three, even though the articles only speak of two men. Unfortunately his case was not investigated thoroughly and Alleghany county was trying to throw him away leaving the actual criminals on the street. His friends turned their backs on him before court started because they didn’t want to be involved after he saved their lives. He was unable to afford a lawyer because his money was stolen and the commonwealth attorney appeared extremely bias before the investigation even started. The three armed men, all convicted violent felons, who held him, amongst others including minors, at gunpoint while carrying illegal firearms and wearing bulletproof vests were never convicted of their wrongdoings. There was a fourth person, a female, who was the driver of their getaway car also known as an accomplice, was only questioned and let go. It was proven that gun residue was on all three men’s hands and several statements were given to authorities, but because Kurell admitted to acting in self defense, they took his statement and created a false narrative, convicting him alone. Clearly he had all odds against him.

I’m here to make sure his story is heard and his charges don’t define him. He has always been a loving and devoted partner, father, son, brother, and friend who has touched many lives with his kindness and positivity. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and was a true pillar of support in our community. He helped anyone who was in need and committed himself to helping others by donating food and time to local shelters and volunteering at Youth Build in Roanoke. He was also a caretaker to his disabled mom. His dedication to bettering the lives of those around him serves as a beacon of hope, and he has always been a role model in our lives.

Kurell has remained committed to bettering himself and contributing positively every day. Throughout his entire incarceration, he has maintained steady employment, demonstrating responsibility, discipline, and a strong work ethic. He has worked in multiple roles, and he is currently a dedicated participant in the prison’s pup program, helping train and care for service dogs that will go on to help people in the community. Even while facing immense hardship, he has continued to show integrity, compassion, and a desire to make a positive impact on others. His actions consistently reflect the character of someone who is committed to growth, service, and contributing meaningfully to society.

He has remained a constant and loving presence in the lives of his family. Every single day, he makes the effort to be there for me and our three children in whatever ways he can from behind prison walls. He continues to guide, comfort, and uplift our family. Our children still look to him for advice, reassurance, and the steady love of a father who refuses to let distance or circumstance break that bond. Despite everything he has been through, he continues to show up for us daily with strength, patience, and devotion, proving that his role as a father and partner has never been taken away from him. Although many people in his life turned their backs on him during this difficult time, he has never allowed bitterness to define him. Instead, he remains hopeful, focused on the future, and determined to return home to the people who still believe in him.

The justice system has failed us by wrongfully imprisoning him for acting in self-defense. This unjust incarceration takes him away from his family, community, and the countless individuals who depend on his guidance and generosity. The legal process has overlooked crucial details of his case, leading to a devastating outcome not only for him but also for everyone whose life he has touched.
