In May 2025, two beloved community cats—King Kong in Yishun and Shere Khan in Punggol—were brutally tortured and killed. Their deaths are not isolated cases, but part of a growing and heartbreaking pattern of animal cruelty in Singapore. In 2024, over 1,300 cats were victims of abuse. Yet, animal welfare groups like SPCA, LUNI, and SOSD lack critical tools—such as access to public CCTV—to protect these innocent lives.

We call on the Singapore Government to:

(1) Grant AWGs access to relevant CCTV footage in cruelty investigations
(2) Enforce stronger penalties for abuse and neglect
(3) Fund and support frontline animal welfare operations
