Justice for Kevin.

Justice for Kevin.
The Issue
Our sweet kitten, Kevin, was more than just a pet to us. At just 7 months old, his life was brutally cut short by a speeding driver who hit him with such force that he was thrown into the air, suffering a seizure before tragically passing away. The driver, who did not stop, was recklessly speeding at much faster than 20mph, and she’s not the first to take the lives of cherished animals on Wolsely Avenue.
Wolsely Avenue is plagued by reckless driving, creating a dangerous environment for both pets and pedestrians alike. Despite the residential nature of the street, it has become a hotspot for speeding, putting lives at risk every day. Children run out into the road chasing balls, riding bikes, and cats cruise over the roads which should be safe. Our community should not have to live in fear of losing more treasured companions or, worse, endangering local residents.
We are calling for immediate action to prevent further heartbreak and safeguard our streets. We demand the installation of speed bumps to physically slow down vehicles. Furthermore, a new, larger speed limit sign should be erected to ensure that drivers are well aware of the 20 mph limit in this residential area.
Statistics reveal that lower speeds save lives, significantly reducing the likelihood of death. Just a small reduction in driving speed can greatly diminish the risk of severe injuries or fatalities. If the driver that hit Kevin was doing the allocated speed, 20mph, she would have had time to see him, slow down and stop.
These measures will not only make Wolsely Avenue safer for animals but will also protect the children and other vulnerable pedestrians who use this road daily.
Our goal is to reach a safer environment that respects the lives of all beings residing and passing through Wolsely Avenue. This petition is a step towards that goal — a call for responsibility, empathy, and safety.
Please, sign this petition to help prevent future tragedies and make our neighborhood a safe and peaceful place for everyone. Kevin deserves justice. Justice for Kevin.
