Justice for Karnal’s Dogs – End Negligence in Sterilisation Centres

The Issue

In Karnal, thousands of stray dogs are being picked up by the Municipal Corporation for sterilisation. This should have been a step toward humane population control. Instead, it has become a silent massacre.

Every week, NGOs like ours rescue dogs from sterilisation centres — but many never make it out. In just one locality, dozens of dogs have died of severe blood infections, untreated wounds, and neglect.

Do the math:

Each locality has about 500 dogs.
Karnal has nearly 50 localities.
That’s almost 25,000 dogs being picked up.
If even a fraction face the same fate, we are looking at thousands of preventable deaths.

Sterilisation is not the problem — cruelty and negligence are. Dogs are being cut open, stitched poorly, left without food, water, or medical care, and then dumped back on the streets to die slowly.

This is not animal welfare. This is state-funded cruelty.

What We Demand

We are calling on the Municipal Corporation of Karnal, the Animal Welfare Board of India, and the Haryana Government to:

Audit sterilisation centres — independent inspections to ensure hygiene, food, and medical standards.
Stop cruel dumping practices — post-operative care must be mandatory.
Redirect funds to NGOs & shelters that actually provide humane care.
Transparency & accountability — publish sterilisation data and mortality rates.
