Justice for Julie Leon: Hold Big Oil Accountable
The Issue
Julie Leon should be alive today. She died alone in her car in Seattle, Washington during the deadly June 2021 heatwave, when temperatures soared past 110°F. She was 65. Her death, and the suffering of hundreds like her, was not just a tragedy—it was preventable.
That heatwave was made 150 times more likely by climate change. And for decades, fossil fuel companies like Exxon and Chevron knew their products were heating the planet. Instead of warning the public or shifting course, they spent millions spreading disinformation, delaying action, and denying responsibility.
Now, Julie’s family is fighting back with a landmark wrongful death lawsuit—the first of its kind in the U.S. They say what millions already feel: that these companies should be held accountable for the human toll of climate change.
We’re calling on Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown to publicly support this case and pursue every legal avenue to hold these corporations responsible. Julie was not a statistic. She was a mother, a neighbor, a human being.
When powerful companies gamble with our lives, they must face consequences. Stand with Julie’s family. Demand justice.
