We have unfortunately been informed that Bellevue police officer, Russell Baptiste will not be charged for murdering Joseph Ejeh by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Despite Joseph clearly being in a crisis, officer Baptiste still decided to essentially execute him, shooting him at close range at least four times.
This decision by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, comes after almost a year of inaccurate and inconsistent information being released by investigating bodies made up of law enforcement themselves, including contradictions to Joseph's character, his Facebook account being wiped, refusals to initially release his personal belongings to his family and the callous, public release of Joseph's name prior to ensuring his family was made aware of his passing.
This is a clear miscarriage of justice, and we will not sit idly by as the state continues to murder Black people instead of ensuring they have the mental health resources they deserve.
Join us for a week of action to demand accountability, support for the family of Joseph Ejeh and an end to police killings of BIPOC community members.
