Petition Update: Please Contact Your Legislators Tomorrow
Tomorrow I will be testifying at the Tennessee Capitol in support of Jimmy’s Law (HB1521).
This bill addresses a serious gap in Tennessee law surrounding fatal hit-and-run crashes. Under the current statutory structure, a person can cause a death, flee the scene, and still serve very little time.
That is what happened in my son Jimmy’s case.
Jimmy was 19 years old. The driver who struck him fled the scene and evaded law enforcement for nearly 29 hours. He entered custody in December 2023 and was released within months.
Tomorrow I will share Jimmy’s story and ask lawmakers to strengthen the law so that fleeing the scene of a fatal crash cannot carry lighter consequences than staying.
If you have signed this petition, I ask one simple favor:
Please take a moment tomorrow to contact your Tennessee legislators and ask them to support Jimmy’s Law (HB1521).
You can simply say:
“I’m asking you to support Jimmy’s Law (HB1521) to strengthen Tennessee’s penalties for fatal hit-and-run crashes.”
Phone Call Script (20 seconds)
“Hello, my name is ____ and I’m calling to ask Representative____ to please support Jimmy’s Law, HB1521, which strengthens penalties for fatal hit-and-run crashes in Tennessee. Thank you.”
Your voice matters more than you realize. Legislators listen when their constituents speak.
Thank you for standing with Jimmy and with families who deserve justice.
