Justice for Javier “Milo” & Juan Figueroa

Justice for Javier “Milo” & Juan Figueroa
The Issue
Community Petition for Justice for Javier “Milo” & Juan Figueroa
We, the undersigned members of the Yuma community and beyond, submit this petition in support of Joseph Figueroa and his family in their pursuit of justice, transparency, and accountability following the tragic death of his minor child, Javier “Milo” Figueroa, on September 13, 2025.
Statement of Concern
On that evening, Joseph’s two sons, Juan and Milo, were chased and attacked by an adult male. By the time Joseph arrived to help his children, Milo had suffered fatal injuries. Instead of compassion and fair treatment, the family has faced:
- Denial of parental rights: Joseph was barred from riding with his son in the ambulance, denied access at the hospital, and deprived of his right to be present in his child’s final moments.
- Failure to protect victims: Despite being attacked, Juan was detained with excessive bail set at $500,000, while the adult aggressor walked free.
- Dismissal of witnesses: Multiple witnesses and community members who came forward with evidence and testimony were disregarded.
- Lack of transparency: The family has received inconsistent, delayed, and incomplete information from authorities.
Our Demands
As a community, we stand united in demanding:
- Recognition of Victims’ Rights for Joseph and Juan under the Arizona Victims’ Bill of Rights (Ariz. Const. Art. 2, § 2.1).
- A full, independent, and transparent investigation into the events of September 13, 2025.
- Review of Juan’s detention and bail conditions, with recognition of his status as a victim and not a perpetrator.
- Accountability of all parties responsible, including the aggressor who initiated the attack.
Our Commitment
We sign this petition not only in support of the Figueroa family but also to affirm the principle that every family in Yuma deserves fairness, dignity, and justice when tragedy strikes. The handling of this case undermines public trust in the system, and without corrective action, leaves the impression that victims’ rights and parental rights can be disregarded.
We respectfully urge the Court and the State of Arizona to take immediate action.
