Bradenton, Florida — November 2nd, 2023 — Today, Ed Brodsky, State Attorney for the 12th Circuit, announces the filing of an Information charging Nicholas Anthony Zotto for animal cruelty, classified as a first-degree misdemeanor, stemming from video evidence depicting animal cruelty to a dog named Grizzly. This development follows a comprehensive joint investigation by the Manatee County Animal Services, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, and the State Attorney’s Office. After a joint investigation, and a recommendation by both the Manatee County Animal Services and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, the State Attorney’s Office has charged Nicholas Anthony Zotto with Animal Cruelty, a First Degree Misdemeanor.
The investigation was initiated in response to multiple inquiries from concerned citizens following video depictions being released on social media. The investigative findings were turned over to the State Attorney’s Office on Wednesday, November 1st, and Thursday, November 2nd prompting the subsequent legal actions.
Nicholas Anthony Zotto, was previously employed as a deputy with the Hardee County Sheriff's Office, but has since been terminated by the agency in connection with the incident under scrutiny.
The Manatee County Animal Services has also cited Nicholas Anthony Zotto with civil ordinance violations of Manatee County Ordinances concerning his operation of the business “Pawsome Sitters.”
