We, as a grieving family , strongly oppose the granting of bail to the man accused of brutally murdering Sergeant Mbalenhle Msomi, a dedicated police officer, mother, and tireless advocate against gender-based violence. Sergeant Msomi devoted her life to protecting the most vulnerable members of our society. She helped countless women and children escape abusive environments, established victim support centers within her police station, and created school programs that educated young people about child safety, community safety, and the devastating impact of gender-based violence. Her work gave hope, protection, and dignity to those who needed it most.

The circumstances surrounding her death are deeply disturbing. She was allegedly called to the accused's home, where he then loaded eleven bullets into her body, ending the life of a woman who spent her career fighting to prevent exactly this kind of violence. This horrific incident took place on 16 June, Youth Day in South Africa a significant national holiday dedicated to honouring the courage, sacrifice, and future of our nation's young people making this tragedy even more heartbreaking and profound.Releasing the accused on bail would send a devastating message to victims, survivors, and communities already struggling with the scourge of gender-based violence. It would undermine public confidence in the justice system and add further pain to those mourning this unimaginable loss.

Most importantly, we fear for the safety and well-being of their six year old daughter, who has already suffered the unimaginable trauma of losing her mother. The possibility of the accused being released and having access to the child raises serious concerns that cannot be ignored. We respectfully call upon the court to deny bail and ensure that justice is served. Sergeant Msomi spent her life protecting others; now it is our duty to honor her legacy by standing firmly against any action that could place her child, her loved ones, or the community at further risk.
