JUSTICE FOR GARY BENLOSS

JUSTICE FOR GARY BENLOSS
Why this petition matters
Gary Benloss currently sits in an upstate New York prison wrongfully convicted of murder. He has lost twenty years of his life after a jury convicted him of murder in the second degree on nothing more than the false trial testimony by the prosecutors' star and sole eyewitness, which was intentionally elicited and bolstered by the prosecution.
Gary hails from Brooklyn and is a proud son, brother, and father.
Gary was wrongfully convicted in 2002 on nothing more than hearsay and misconstrued evidence. In fact, the initial police report, which responded to a 9-1-1 call from a witness named Paula Edghill described the suspect as dark-skinned, short-haired, and 5'8". Gary is over six-feet, light-skinned, and at the time, had an afro. He never met the assessment. Instead, the corrupt DA and detectives on the case crafted him into being the suspect, including doctoring his appearance for a lineup.
Gary was unfortunately one of many victims of the now disgraced former Assistant District Attorney Kyle Reeves. The issues and blatant injustice in this case raises serious questions concerning the integrity of our due process of law and calls for an immediate investigation, as the egregious and unethical tactics administered affected the outcome and caused irreparable harm to an innocent man and his family.
Since conviction, Gary has strived to live his life to the fullest, including supporting others. He is the chairperson of Voices From Within, a program that aims to demystify the stigma of incarcerated people, encourage incarcerated people to repay their debts to society, as well as advocate for the Wrongfully Convicted. He is also pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science through the Mercy College/Hudson Link for Education program.
In the fall of 2021, Gary lost his son, Isaiah. Since his passing, he has strived even harder to be the best possible inspiration he can be, pursuing his passions and raising his voice for justice.
