Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters, As Jaquai’s mother, there isn’t a single day that passes that I don’t think about him. I miss his smile. I miss hearing his voice. I miss watching him stand up for what he believed was right. Every day, I carry the weight of a promise I made to my son, that I would never stop fighting to uncover the truth and make sure his voice would never be forgotten. I never imagined I would lose a child. I never imagined I would one day have to fight for justice for my own son. Since the day Jaquai died, I have cried every single day, knowing in my heart that he has not yet received the justice I believe he deserves. The pain of losing him is something I carry with me every moment of every day, but so is the promise I made to him. I told my son I would never stop fighting to uncover the truth, and I will never give up. No matter how long this journey takes or how difficult the road becomes, I intend to keep that promise. Today, I want to share an important update with everyone who has chosen to walk beside me on this journey and become Jaquai’s voice. From the very beginning, you have stood with our family through your prayers, your signatures, your encouragement, and your unwavering support. Because of you, I am not carrying this promise alone. When Jaquai was alive, he believed in speaking up for others. He believed in fairness, equality, and justice. He was a young man who was deeply observant, wise beyond his years, and never afraid to stand for what he believed was right. None of us could have imagined that one day, the young man who stood up for others would no longer be here to speak for himself. Because of you, he still has a voice. I promised my son that I would expose the truth, no matter how difficult the journey became. That promise has not changed. We are not backing down, and together with all of you standing beside us, we are moving this fight into its next phase. There is only so much I can share in a petition update, and what you see in the court filings is only a small part of Jaquai’s story. The legal record tells you where the case stands, but it cannot capture who Jaquai was, the life he lived, the love he gave, or the pain our family has endured. As you read through the record, I hope you’ll better understand why I continue this fight every single day and why I believe Jaquai deserves justice. It is also why we need as many voices as possible willing to stand beside him, share his story, and help ensure that his voice is never silenced. Every person who chooses to stand with Jaquai helps ensure that his story continues to be heard. Along with this update, I’m also sharing two very special videos. In one, you’ll see Jaquai releasing balloons in memory of friends he had lost, a reflection of the compassionate heart he carried and the love he had for others. In the second, you’ll see our family releasing balloons on what would have been his 28th birthday, honoring his life and remembering the son, brother, family member, and friend we miss every single day. I created a Supporters group but it is private but videos can be seen there or on my Facebook Page. I wanted to share these moments because the court filings tell only one part of this journey. These videos tell another. They remind us that Jaquai was so much more than a case number. He was a young man who loved deeply, stood up for others, and left an imprint on everyone who knew him. My hope is that when you watch these videos and read the public record, you’ll better understand why I continue this fight every day and why I’m asking you to continue standing beside me as Jaquai’s voice. If Jaquai were here today, I believe he would be overwhelmed by the love and support shown by people from all walks of life. I know he would be grateful to every person who has signed the petition, shared his story, prayed for our family, and refused to let his name be forgotten. When I made my son a promise, I never imagined how many people would one day help me keep it. Every one of you who signs the petition, shares his story, says a prayer, or speaks his name becomes part of that promise. You remind me that even though Jaquai is no longer here to speak for himself, his voice can still reach hearts through all of us. For that, I will be forever grateful.
