We open this petition with our hearts heavy over the recent unnecessary loss of Eyare, a beloved gorilla who was cherished not just by her mother Dossi but also by countless zoo-goers. Eyare was more than a zoo resident – he was a symbol of the captivity issues plaguing our animal care institutions nationwide. Alarmingly, Eyare's demise is not a standalone incident; numerous animals suffer similar fates, losing their lives in zoos far from natural causes.

The current zoo system, lacking stringent regulations and proper scrutiny, fails to ensure the welfare of these innocent creatures who deserve utmost care and respect. Year after year, audits uncover an alarming amount of incidents where zookeeper error or exhibit design flaws caused animal deaths.
 
We call upon direct stakeholders – zoo administration and government legislature – to implement more rigorous regulations, establish preventative measures, and increase transparency in the daily operations of zoos. The urgency is undeniable; we should not wait until another Eyare departs from us prematurely.

We insist, in memory of Eyare and for the welfare of all captive animals, that our demand is met with swift action. For Eyare, for her mother Dossi, for all zoo animals who have suffered or are at risk, and for all who feel the pain of these losses, we plead for your support.
