Justice for Essien Edokpayi - Bay Area teen killed on Christmas Eve

Essien Edokpayi,

A 17 year old boy who was shot and killed after an altercation with a male suspect on Christmas Eve in Vacaville California.

The suspect was later confirmed as Daignet Montoya, 39, who was arrested the day of the shooting on suspicion of murder.

He was released from jail two days later after the District Attorney’s Office reported its investigation could not rule out that he had acted in self-defense.

Essien’s life was (senselessly) ended by a grown man who made the conscious and deliberate decision to respond to a petty argument by going into his apartment, retrieving a gun and returning to the street to re-engage with a small group of teens.

This was back in 2018 and Montoya has still not been prosecuted. They stated that the investigation would be under review but we have heard nothing since his death. His family, friends, and peers continue to grieve and yet there is still no justice.

after creating the Instagram page @justiceforessien, I realized how significant Essien’s death was! I created the hashtag #lockupmontoya in which myself and many others from solano county voiced there concerns and grieved on our local sheriffs department Instagram page.

The sheriffs office responded by removing every single comment and blocking every single user that commented.

This is when I decided enough was enough.

I want to bring Daignet Montoya to court for emotional trauma. Not just for me, but for the hundreds of kids in solano county, including his family, who were seriously traumatized in a negative way following the aftermath of Essien’s death.

If you or anyone you know has or had been impacted in a negative way following Essien’s death, please sign this petition!
