Eddie Munson was a beloved character in Stranger Things Season 4.  He quickly became a fan favorite on the level of any of the main characters who have been in the show since Season 1.  He wasn't the bravest character, but he was a very smart one.  But, at end of Season 4, he inexplicably gave his life for no apparent reason.  No one was saved by the act, and he had a greater chance of success and survival by taking other actions. 

On top of that, he was a long-time Dungeon Master for D&D in the setting, which means that he had to constantly think strategically and tactically for a wide range of scenarios, so he would have had to know better than to do what he did.  Even some of his first scenes featured comments like how there is no shame in running.  Since there was no real purpose for the sacrifice, it cannot be explained as heroic, or character growth.  The only option for him would have been to retreat, as was the plan.

His death makes no sense, saved no one, and was completely out of character.  The only purpose it could have served was to kill off a character who had, in a single season, become one of the most loved fan-favorites, to elicit strong emotions from the audience.  But, because of the lack of any other reason or logic, this becomes a form of audience abuse, not good story-telling. 

This one death has actually become a major concern for many viewers, and is making them consider not watching Season 5 when it eventually releases, despite having been heavily invested in the show for years.  So, please join me in requesting that the show's creators, writers, and more, fix this somehow, and give Eddie proper justice.  Thank you.
