Justice for Dr. Jahi Issa

The DE Supreme Court Case is Scheduled for October 22, 2012. Please hit us reach 5,000 signatures before then!

Dr. Jahi Issa is being falsely accused of inciting a riot and "serious misconduct" and is threated with a 2 year jail sentence because he was the professor who oversaw a student protest.

Dr. Issa, formerly an Assistant Professor of History and Africana Studies at Delaware State University (a Historically Black College - HBCU) published an accurate and thought provoking article entitled, "The Ethnic Cleansing of Historically Black Colleges & Universities in the Age of Obama." (read the article) The article focused on revealing the systematic process by which the U.S. Department of Education and other privatized-conservative business interests are removing African American teachers along with billions of dollars of federal funds intended for HBCUs in a collective effort to decrease enrollment of African American students to subvert and remove HBCUs altogether.

Dr. Issa, who is a loving father of 5 children now collects unemployment which is significantly below is teaching salary and is threatened with 2 years incarceration. We need YOUR help! Numbers matter, Please sign this petition in favor for the immediate release of Dr. Issa.

----------- THE FACTS ------------------

1) HBCUs graduate more than 33% of all African Americans earning Bachelor's and Doctoral degrees, almost double that compared to African Americans attending predominately White Schools
(source: National Science Foundation)

2) HBCUs accounted for more than 40% of all bachelors degrees earned by African Americans
(source: The National Center for Educational Statistics)

3) African Americans who attend HBCUs tend to perform better in the work force than African Americans who attend predominately White colleges
(source: Review of Black political Economy 2011)

4) According to Dr. Mary Francis Berry, former Secretary of Education in the Carter Administration, primary reasons why HBCUs tended to be better equipped to prepare students for real world experience was because they offered:
          Credible models for aspiring Blacks
psycho-socially congenial settings in which Blacks can develop
insurance against a potentially declining interest in the education of Black folk.
