Justice for Darren Williams — Let This Scholar-Athlete Play His Senior Year

The Issue

My name is Brittany Sanderson and I’m writing this not just as a community member, but as Darren Williams’ proud aunt. Darren is an honor roll student, a multi-sport athlete, and most importantly, a young man of strong character and integrity. He transferred to Varina High School with dreams of finishing his senior year on the field — but those dreams have been put on hold.

Henrico County Public Schools has benched Darren, claiming he doesn’t live full-time in the Varina district. Our family has provided the necessary legal documentation to prove residency, yet he remains sidelined from participating in the sports he’s dedicated his entire life to.

Darren has worked tirelessly both in the classroom and on the field. He’s a straight-A student, a three-sport athlete, and a role model to his peers. He’s never been in trouble, never caused problems, and represents exactly what a student-athlete should be; disciplined, respectful, and humble.

It’s heartbreaking to see a young man’s hard work and reputation questioned, especially when all evidence supports his eligibility. This isn’t just about football; it’s about fairness, integrity, and the message we send to our students who do everything right.

We’re asking Henrico County Public Schools and the Virginia High School League to reinstate Darren Williams immediately so he can participate in his final football season and continue his journey as the outstanding student-athlete he’s proven himself to be.

Let’s stand behind Darren — for every student who deserves to be seen, heard, and treated with fairness.

Please sign and share this petition to get Darren back on the field where he belongs.
