My name is Karina, and I’m a mother and a member of this community. Recently, my son’s friend, Cristofer “Chris” Suarez, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run near Owens Avenue and 21st Street — right on the border between Las Vegas and North Las Vegas.   
Cristofer was just a child. He had a future, a family, and friends who loved him. His death has shaken our entire community and revealed how unsafe our school zones truly are. The intersection where this happened is busy, poorly marked, and confusing — especially during school hours.   
No family should ever have to experience this kind of loss. This petition is for Cristofer and for every child who walks to and from school each day.   
I’m asking both the City of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas to come together, take accountability, and make immediate changes to protect children: better lighting, flashing crosswalks, speed cameras, and more crossing guards.   Reinforce the corner of 21st Street and Owens, Also adding and stop signs and cross markers specifically to the corner of Stanley Ave and Bruce Street.
