In Modesto, CA on July 14th, 2022 Paul David Chavez Jr "CJ" was wrongfully shot and killed by a Modesto police officer. Modesto police were called by Paul Chavez Jr father-in-law about a family disturbance about Paul Chavez Jr. allegedly being intoxicated and having a tow hitch in his hand which the father-in-law had exaggerated as a weapon. When officers arrived Paul Chavez Jr. was lying down in his inlaws neighbors (which was two houses over) driveway by the lawn intoxicated trying to sober up. He had stood up and walked the opposite direction of the officers towards his in laws house. The 2 Modesto police officers were immediately trying to get in close contact to Paul Chavez Jr. while both armed one officer with his tazer and the other officer with their service issued handgun. Paul Chavez Jr. was told to drop his tow hitch multiple times but never posed a threat. Multiple body cam footage and other video shows that he was not only trying to have no confrontation with anyone it shows he dropped the tow hitch after getting tazed. It wasn't till after that and his back was turned that Paul David Chavez Jr. was shot by Modesto Police officer Sam Muncy. The link to body cam footage and other video is below.
