Justice for Chuck: Protect Animals When Someone Has Stepped Up to Save Them
CHUCK SHOULD BE ALIVE.
On August 14, 2026, Chuck (A1291036) was at Dallas Animal Services in Dallas, Texas.
A foster had stepped forward.
Based on the information and documentation currently available to us, the foster had communicated with the Dallas Animal Services Foster team and believed she would be picking Chuck up at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Dallas Animal Services' social media was also updated to indicate that Chuck had a pending foster.
The foster came to the shelter.
She brought her daughter.
They walked through the doors believing they were about to take Chuck home.
Instead, they learned Chuck had been euthanized.
There should have been a photograph that evening of Chuck leaving the shelter with his foster family.
There isn't.
And that is why we are asking people in Dallas, across the United States, and around the world to stand with us and demand Justice for Chuck.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT REVENGE.
It is not about attacking shelter employees.
It is about truth, transparency, accountability, public trust, and preventing this from happening again.
A public-records request is pending to establish Chuck's complete timeline from the underlying documentation.
We want to know:
How could information that Chuck had a pending foster reach one part of a municipal animal shelter without preventing his euthanasia?
When a foster, adopter, or rescue steps forward to save an animal, there must be safeguards ensuring that commitment reaches everyone involved in a life-or-death decision.
WE ARE ASKING THE CITY OF DALLAS TO:
Conduct and document a complete review of what happened to Chuck.
Provide transparency about the timeline and communication breakdown.
Review and strengthen stop-euthanasia procedures when a foster, adopter, or rescue commitment has been received.
Require lifesaving commitments to be acknowledged, documented, and communicated to the appropriate teams before euthanasia proceeds.
Establish safeguards designed to prevent an animal with a confirmed lifesaving commitment from being euthanized because of a communication or system failure.
Meaningfully communicate with the foster family whose trust was broken.
Tell the public what corrective measures will be implemented as a result of Chuck's case.
WHY THIS MATTERS EVERYWHERE
Chuck's story happened in Dallas.
But the principle is universal.
Animal shelters everywhere depend upon members of the public saying:
I'll foster.
I'll adopt.
My rescue will help.
When someone says YES, that lifesaving commitment must mean something.
Chuck cannot be brought back.
But something meaningful can happen because of him.
We can demand answers.
We can strengthen safeguards.
We can protect public trust.
And we can help make sure another family never walks into an animal shelter expecting to save a dog only to discover that dog is already gone.
Please sign this petition wherever you live.

Share for Chuck.
Speak up for the animals who cannot speak for themselves.
Because there must never be another Chuck.
