Justice for Chitrakala Gurung.

Justice for Chitrakala Gurung.
The Issue
Chitrakala Gurung (aged 42 yrs), a resident of Lower Relling, Bijanbari, Dist. Darjeeling, was brutally murdered on 14th March, 2022 in her home at around 11 am by Pranesh Rai (aged approx. 22 yrs), a student of Government College, Darjeeling and a nephew in relation to the victim. At the time of the unfortunate, her son, Suvam Gurung (aged 25 yrs), was in Puttaparthi pursuing MTech degree and her daughter, Suviyam Gurung (aged 17yrs), was in Siliguri pursuing her Bachelor's degree. Her husband, Nabin Gurung (aged 45 yrs) was in his duty in Vidyasagar H.S. School, Bijanbari. The crime only came into light at around 2 pm when her husband came home after a repetitive failure to connect her through phone calls. The children were informed and asked to return home immediately.
She (Chitrakala Gurung), was an ardent devotee of Sri Sathya Sai Baba and devoted most of her time to sewa activities of Sai Mandir, Bijanbari. She had been ever kind, loving and soft spoken to everyone in the area and never had any dispute with anyone as such.
The accused, Pranesh Rai, is her nephew (Husband's younger sister's son), whom she welcomed home when he arrived and was preparing tea for him but how could such a simple woman have any idea that he had some other hideous plan in his mind. He attacked her from the back and repetitively hit her on head with an iron pestle. She was left lying in the kitchen shaking and drenched in blood until she succumbed to death due to haemorrhage - excessive blood loss.
On strict interrogation by the police department, the accused confessed and admitted that he committed the crime for the money he needed for drugs.
Such a person is a genuine threat to the society and must be given the strictest punishment by the law without any bias or prejudice. An honest and sincere trial for justice is what she and her family deserve. The husband, the son and the daughter have gone through an extreme trauma of loss and changes. And are still mourning her absence.
