Justice for Children: End Financial Evasion in Child Support Payments

Justice for Children: End Financial Evasion in Child Support Payments
The issue
The current child support system allows many parents to evade their financial responsibilities by hiding income through phoenix businesses, cash only transactions, and other loopholes. This leaves the primary caregiver often mothers struggling financially while the other parent contributes little to nothing. We demand stronger laws and enforcement mechanisms to ensure child support is calculated fairly and collected effectively.
Why This Matters:
- Loopholes in the System – Many high-income earners are able to manipulate their finances, declare minimal income, or even shut down businesses and restart under a new name to avoid paying child support.
- Unfair Burden on Primary Caregivers – The financial responsibility falls disproportionately on the parent who has full or majority custody of the children.
- Children’s Well being at Risk – Child support is meant to provide for children’s basic needs, including education, healthcare, and a stable home. Avoiding payments directly harms children.
- Lack of Government Enforcement – Child Support Agencies have limited power to properly investigate hidden income sources.
What Needs to Change:
✅ Stronger enforcement mechanisms to track real income, including cross-checking with tax records, business registrations, and cash-flow audits.
✅ Mandatory financial transparency for self-employed individuals – Including real time reporting of earnings and tax audits for those claiming low income.
✅ Tougher penalties for those hiding income, including business bans, asset freezes, and interest on unpaid child support.
✅ Automatic child support deductions from income – Ensuring funds are collected before they can be hidden.
✅ Protection for mothers & caregivers – Legal support for those struggling to collect unpaid child support.
Call to Action:
We call on the Australian Government and Child Support Agency to immediately reform the Child Support Calculator to ensure fairness and justice for children and caregivers. Sign this petition to demand action!
