Justice for Child Q
The Issue
I am shocked and saddened to hear of the young 15 Yr old black school girl strip searched by police whilst at school, during her exams, after her teachers accused her of "smelling of cannabis". In an even more sinister twist, this girl was on her period and even after explaining her situation, she was disbelieved and made to undergo what many would deem a degrading and traumatic sexual assault, as an unaccompanied minor, at the hands of two policewomen.
Her mother was not even contacted for consent or to be informed what was happening to her child.
Institutionalised racism within the Metropolitan Police is not new or surprising but what this report also shines a spotlight on is the shocking failures and covert racism within schools. How was this ever allowed to occur in an institution where safeguarding of children should be paramount?
No doubt this young girl will be traumatised and left with life long effects of being abused in such a manner by adults in positions of power, who were meant to protect her and not cause her harm.
Not only was the treatment of this child extremely racist, the subsequent report tries to victim blame and point fingers by highlighting their unfounded previous "concerns" surrounding the child.
Join me in calling for the immediate dismissal of both the schools staff and the policewomen involved in this horrendous racially driven crime and catastrophic abuse of power. We demand an urgent review of safeguarding procedures within schools and demand restoration of parental consent.
