Our lives were shattered when our 14-year-old son's life was tragically ended by an unsecured firearm in the home of his friend in Yadkin County, NC. This was a preventable tragedy, yet the aftermath was only compounded by the failure of the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Department to properly investigate his death. They have refused to release the investigative report to me, his mother, leaving us without answers or closure.

Shockingly, the investigation fell short in numerous ways. There was no collection of critical physical evidence, the firearm was found without obtainable fingerprints, and it was not functioning properly. Even more concerning was the absence of the gun near where Channing's body was found. These fundamental oversights raise serious concerns about the diligence and thoroughness of the investigation.

It is unacceptable for our community to live in fear of similar tragedies occurring, without the assurance that justice will be served or that proper investigative procedures will be followed. We cannot allow another family to endure the pain and uncertainty that we are facing. It is imperative for the Yadkin County Sheriff's Department to take responsibility and transparently share the full details of their investigation.
