Justice for Chagos: Restore the Rights of the Chagossian People

The Issue

For decades, the people of the Chagos Archipelago have lived with the consequences of forced displacement, broken promises, and political delay.

Between 1968 and 1973, Chagossian families were removed from their homeland to make way for a military base on Diego Garcia. Generations were uprooted without meaningful consultation, without adequate compensation, and without the right to return to the land of their ancestors.

Today, the Chagossian people continue to seek what should never have been denied:

• The right of return
• Full recognition of their identity and history
• Fair compensation
• Meaningful participation in decisions about their homeland
• Transparency in all agreements concerning the islands

This is not about politics.
This is about justice.

International courts and global institutions have acknowledged the need to address the historical wrongs committed against the Chagossians. Yet real, practical justice remains incomplete.

We call on:

• The Government of the United Kingdom
• The Government of Mauritius
• The United States Government
• International human rights bodies

To take immediate, concrete action to:

Guarantee the lawful and safe return of Chagossians to their islands.
Ensure direct representation of Chagossian voices in all negotiations.
Establish a transparent compensation and development framework.
Protect cultural heritage, land rights, and future self-determination.
The people of Chagos are not a footnote in history.
They are a living community with dignity, resilience, and an unbreakable bond to their homeland.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

Sign this petition to stand for human rights, accountability, and the restoration of dignity to the Chagossian people.
