Justice for Brixx: Hold Dog Shooter Accountable in Davidson County

Justice for Brixx: Hold Dog Shooter Accountable in Davidson County
The Issue
A beloved family dog was shot and killed in broad daylight on his own back porch, and the person responsible has not yet been arrested.
On January 2, 2026, the Fisher-Threatt family of Davidson County, North Carolina, discovered their 2-year-old Cane Corso, Brixx Disel Fisher, lying dead in a pool of blood on their back porch. Home surveillance footage shows Brixx barking while confined on the porch just before a single gunshot is heard.
The family identified a neighbor, Dean Scott Campbell, as the person who allegedly shot their dog. They say there had been previous incidents involving Campbell, including a time he fired a gun and claimed he was shooting at a squirrel. This time, the family says the shot came directly from his direction. Yet no arrest was made.
The Fisher-Threatt family contacted animal control and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, who viewed the footage. Still, deputies reportedly said they could not arrest the neighbor because he was not seen on camera, even though the shot’s origin was clearly captured.
This is not justice. It is dismissal.
A family has lost their dog, their children are traumatized, and the person who fired a gun across a property line and took a life has not been held accountable. This is not only an act of cruelty, it is a public safety issue and a failure to act on clear evidence.
We are calling on the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office to:
- Conduct a full and transparent criminal investigation into the death of Brixx
- File appropriate charges based on the surveillance evidence and eyewitness accounts
- Ensure that families in Davidson County, regardless of race or background, receive equal protection under the law when pets are harmed
No one should be able to shoot and kill a dog on someone else's property without consequences.
