Justice for Bones, See Something, Say Something

The Issue

I was the first person in the world to see this dog and see something worth saving
He had spent his whole life being neglected, abused, and then when he reached the shelter he was not put on medical hold, he was put on the ADOPTION FLOOR.
I went to the shelter Sunday afternoon with the intention of saving one life. I saw this guy and said verbatim to the volunteer who was with me who did not even see him in his kennel, "I have to take him, he will die in here, tonight."
I saw a dog laying next to a pile of his own diarrhea so emaciated you could count every single one of his ribs. I knew he had to leave right then, there was no chance in hell he would stay there another night.
I took pictures of him because I knew he would need to see a vet and it would not be cheap. This changed his life, for the first time people asked about how he was doing, wanted to help him, wanted to see him get better.
I stayed up until midnight making him high calorie treats and bone broth from scratch last night.
I have fed him every hour on the hour.
We have had people from all over the country praying for him
I am so glad people care about him now but where were the neighbors, the family, the friends of the person who owned this poor creature. They did not think to intervene before some poor girl with an animal rescue had to step up and do all those things for him, for him to still be so weak his literal organs fell out of his body this morning.
I woke up, fed him once, took my other foster for surgery, came home to feed him again and his rectum began to prolapse. I have been in vet medicine and rescue a long time I have never seen something as terrible as this. I was helpless, I watched as his colon started coming out of his body. I threw up, I called my vet, I went to get help, and off to the vet we went.
When we arrived it was suggested we try to stabilize a little then head to the hospital er vet in Denver, NC, I threw up again, I called all my volunteers, waited for information and then I asked to go see him, I wish I hadn't.
He was on the table and when his colon pretty much just collapsed. That's when more blood started, that's when more organs became visible. At this point there's nothing to be done, all three vets on staff agreed he was past the point of saving.
I had to witness that, I went through that with him. I loved him, I wanted him to be better, what I hate his the life he led and how far he had to be gone for anyone to give a shit about him.
He did not become this way overnight, he was not always a walking skeleton without enough muscle mass to hold his organs inside of his body.
He became that way because I WAS the first person to see him and take pity on him.
That being said maybe you did know this dog, maybe you feel now is the time to do the right thing or maybe there was not enough at stake to get off your ass and make a phone call for him. Rusty's Rescue Ranch is offering an $1,000 dollar reward with more donors every minute willing to donate towards a go fund me to increase that reward
If you know something, say something, if it leads to the arrest of the person who did this you will receive the reward.
We are contacting local news media and have every intention of finding the person or people responsible for Bones, he deserved so much better than this world gave him.
No person or animal deserves to suffer the life he led.
No story deserves to end this way but a fairy tale is not always the outcome for these animals.
I will be having Bones' ashes returned to me and setting up a small memorial for him, though he was forgotten in life, he will be remembered in death. We will continue fighting for you, you have touched so many people in such a short amount of time, it took one person to see you, to make thousands care.

If you see something say something

Bones needs Justice

We are offering a $1000 reward leading to the arrest of his previous owner

In this moment we are asking all of our supporters to begin saying something when it needs to be said. If it's wrong, don't let it slide.

Bones had to have had people who knew what was happening to him and they did not take action in time to have him saved. Now is the time to take action, TODAY. It's far too late for Bones but it is not too late for Justice

We are asking everyone to please foster a dog in honor of bones and sign our see something, say something petition. Make it your mission this year to see a dog who needs help and help it. If you've never fostered, try it, if you've never sponsored a dog, try it, if you've never volunteered at a shelter, try it. Immerse yourself in the lives of these animals to impact positive change. We promise once you see it, you can't unsee it and that's a good thing. People need to open their eyes to lives of animals in North Carolina.
