The Issue

Copper is blind. He can't see the desert heat closing in, can't see a car pulling away, can't see who left him behind. But a local animal rescuer found him abandoned in the Arizona desert, blind and alone, and is now warning the public about what happened to him, as reported by FOX 10.

We don't know yet who left Copper in the desert or why. What we do know is that abandoning any animal, let alone one who cannot see danger coming, is not something Arizona should treat as a shrug and a rescue story. It should be treated as a case that gets investigated to the fullest extent the law allows.

This petition asks the Arizona Attorney General's Office and local law enforcement to open a formal investigation into how Copper ended up alone in the desert, and to pursue accountability under Arizona's animal cruelty and abandonment laws if a responsible party is identified. Blind animals depend entirely on the people around them for safety. Whoever left Copper without care took that safety away from him.

Copper survived because a rescuer found him in time. The next abandoned animal left in the Arizona desert might not be so lucky unless this case is taken seriously and investigated properly.

Sign the petition demanding a full investigation into Copper's abandonment — before the next vulnerable animal left in the desert doesn't get found in time.
