Justice for Berta, killed in a cruel trap

On Sunday October 17 our beloved Berta was killed due to the negligence of a trapper and the trapping rules of BC.
Kill snares were set in a busy public area, heavily baited with bones and meat to lure in animals to be strangled to death.
These snares were set 280 METRES FROM HOMES, in a community full of people who love to bring their pets to the crown land for walks and adventures.
I know as soon as we get through the gate off the highway, we would let our dogs out and let them run on our way to the river.
I have ridden my horses back there, hiked and ran back there,hunted back there, and for the past 8 years not once have I ever seen a snare, bait or been told of a trapping line present, until now.
No signs, no warnings, not even a thought of telling the people of our community that there are deadly contraptions set out where our pets can be killed.
Why?? Why set kill snares in a heavily populated area? What are you going to catch there other than people’s pets?
I as a hunter, have to ensure that I’m in the right area, shooting the correct size animal, in the correct time of year, and if not? Jail time, fines, seizure of guns, loss of license, the list goes on….
Trappers are allowed to just set kill snares and LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED FOR UP TO 2 WEEKS!!!!!!! HOW?!?! HOW IS THIS OK???? They have no clue at all as to what can and get caught up in these traps!
The owner of this trap line has 2 past incidences of killing other dogs and leaving traps out past the allotted time… yet he is still allowed to practice? HOW??? HOW IS THIS OK???
Nearly 90% of BC has registered trap lines, there are registered traps like on grazing leases , HOW? HOW IS THIS OK???? Why would you put grazing animals on the same chunk of crown land as a trapping lease? Seems a little backwards doesn’t it?
Berta was a livestock guardian who kept all of our animals safe, and I feel she was failed by a barbaric, outdated system that didn’t keep her safe. She didn’t deserve this, no animals deserve this, wild or not.
