Three bears were shot, allegedly after a woman was injured when her dog scared bears while they were mating.  The woman was walking at night, with her dogs, who broke loose and chased the female bears, and the male bear got defensive of his wives.  The woman was injured but made a full recovery.  The conservation officers shot three bears, despite the woman only being injured by the male.

The bears were dissected for rabies testing, to study human bear interactions, and to see if they killed the “right bears”.  They are using drones and helicopters to track and kill a fourth bear.  

We would like the Yukon Conservation Officers to leave the fourth bear alone.  We would like them to stop killing in response to negative encounters and instead take a proactive approach like banning dogs in parks at night, and close the park during the bear love season.  We would also like an end to killing for dissection and “science”, since rabies vaccines can be given without testing an animal, and scientists can study animals without cruelty.
