The Issue
DEMAND: THE REMOVAL OF DUSHYANT KUMAR GAUTAM AS GOVERNOR OF SIKKIM
Ankita’s family deserves answers. The investigation must reach its conclusion. Accountability cannot wait.
In September 2022, 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari was murdered in Uttarakhand. Three men were convicted in connection with her murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
However, questions surrounding the alleged VIP angle in the case have continued to be raised by Ankita’s family. The CBI is investigating this aspect of the case, and her family has demanded answers and accountability.
On 19th October 2026, Dushyant Kumar Gautam was appointed Governor of Sikkim. His appointment has raised serious concerns among those calling for the investigation into the alleged VIP angle to be completed before he continues in this constitutional position.
OUR DEMAND IS CLEAR:
We call upon the competent constitutional authorities to remove Dushyant Kumar Gautam from the position of Governor of Sikkim, or take the appropriate constitutional steps necessary to end his tenure, pending the completion of the CBI investigation into the alleged VIP angle in the Ankita Bhandari case.
We also demand:
A thorough, impartial investigation into the alleged VIP angle, free from political interference or preferential treatment.
Respectful engagement with Ankita’s family and appropriate communication of the investigation’s findings.
Accountability through lawful proceedings wherever evidence warrants it.
This petition does not claim that an allegation is proof of guilt. Dushyant Kumar Gautam has denied the allegations against him. Our demand is that the concerns raised by Ankita’s family be taken seriously and that the investigation be allowed to reach a conclusive outcome.
A constitutional office carries significant public responsibility. We believe the competent authorities should consider whether his continued tenure is appropriate while these serious questions remain under investigation.

Ankita was only 19. Her life was taken, and her family continues to seek answers.
We cannot undo what happened to Ankita. But we can demand that the questions surrounding her case receive serious consideration, that the investigation proceeds fairly, and that constitutional accountability is not overlooked.
