Justice for all residents- demand a curfew on Western Sydney Airport
The issue
Due to open in 2026, Western Sydney Airport's operational guidelines have been rammed through with no prior consultation with affected communities in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
These guidelines include an unrestricted 24-hour schedule. Unlike Mascot Airport, Western Sydney International will have no curfew. This means no let-up, no respite, no sanity break from around-the-clock noise pollution.
The people living under Nancy Bird Walton's projected flight paths have been designated collateral damage in a bid by powerful corporate interests to maximise profit at the expense of health and environment.
Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains are now on the brink of becoming a sacrifice zone. It is for this reason that many residents now feel like second-class citizens.
Why should some airport-affected citizens have the protection of a curfew while others do not? Why is this basic question not more openly discussed? Why are we told that this is how it has to be and there can be no real debate?
The tick-a-box drama of "community consultation" is meaningless unless residents get a genuine chance to reject a toxic mega-project that threatens to overwhelm an entire way of life.
Our skies are not your speedway.
Our national park bushland with its richness of flora and fauna is not your fossil fuel dump.
The only way to ensure that basic standards of equity and justice are applied is to demand it from the politicians who are ultimately responsible.
Demand that, at the very least, a strict curfew be applied for Western Sydney Airport- allowing residents the same rights as those living closer to metropolitan Sydney.
