Justice for Alexis: Hold RMC Hospital Accountable for Negligence!

The Issue

On January 19, 2023, my youngest daughter, Alexis, tragically lost her life due to a severe asthma attack. As a mother devastated by this unimaginable loss, I am starting this petition to demand justice for Alexis and to hold RMC Hospital in Anniston, Alabama accountable for their negligence.

Alexis was no stranger to the hospital. She had been battling asthma since she was a young child and had been admitted multiple times over the years. In fact, in 2022 alone, she was placed on a ventilator at RMC Hospital after one of her attacks left her dead on arrival. The doctors at this hospital were well aware of her condition and even warned us that her next attack could be fatal.

Despite these warnings and the numerous calls made to 911 within a span of just 24 hours leading up to Alexis's passing, she was repeatedly sent home by the hospital staff. It is unfathomable that they dismissed her symptoms as mere anxiety when it was clear that she was struggling to breathe.

As grieving parents who entrusted our daughter's care into the hands of medical professionals, we are appalled by their lack of action and disregard for Alexis's life. No parent should have to experience such heartbreak knowing that their child could have been saved if only proper medical attention had been provided.

We believe it is crucial to shed light on this tragic incident not only for our own closure but also in order to prevent similar cases from happening in the future. We call upon concerned citizens like you who believe in justice and accountability within our healthcare system.

By signing this petition, you are demanding:

1) A thorough investigation into RMC Hospital's handling of Alexis's case.
2) Accountability measures taken against any medical professionals found negligent.
3) Implementation of stricter protocols ensuring prompt and appropriate treatment for asthma patients.
4) Increased awareness and training for medical staff regarding the severity of asthma attacks.

We understand that mistakes can happen, but when a hospital fails to act despite multiple 911 calls and prior knowledge of a patient's condition, it is an egregious violation of their duty to protect and save lives. We cannot let this tragedy be forgotten or swept under the rug.

Together, we can make a difference. Let us stand united in seeking justice for Alexis and ensuring that no other child or family has to suffer such preventable loss due to negligence within our healthcare system.
