The Issue

On January 24, 2026, 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti was shot and killed by federal immigration officers in south Minneapolis.

Alex was a U.S. citizen. He was an ICU nurse who cared for veterans at the Minneapolis VA hospital. He was a mentor to younger nurses, a calm presence in moments of crisis, and a man who deeply loved the outdoors, his dog, and his community. He had no criminal record. According to local officials, he was not the target of the immigration operation underway that morning.

And now, he is dead.

Federal officials quickly claimed that Alex posed a deadly threat, accusing him of “brandishing” a weapon and labeling him a “domestic terrorist.” But bystander videos tell a very different story. Footage appears to show Alex being surrounded by multiple agents, restrained, and struck while on the ground before shots are fired. No publicly released video shows Alex attempting to use a firearm. Minneapolis officials have confirmed he was a lawful gun owner with a valid permit and that he had not drawn his weapon.

Mayor Jacob Frey, Governor Tim Walz, Senator Amy Klobuchar, and other Minnesota leaders have openly questioned the federal narrative, calling it false, dangerous, and deeply inflammatory. “Thank God we have video,” Governor Walz said. “The story we’re being told does not match what people can see with their own eyes.”

The facts may be disputed by federal agencies, but the outcome is not: Alex Pretti is dead, and his family, colleagues, and community deserve the truth.

We demand a full, independent investigation into the killing of Alex Pretti, including the public identification of the officer or officers who fired the fatal shots. Any agent found to have used excessive or unlawful force must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We further demand transparency from the Department of Homeland Security and accountability from ICE and U.S. Border Patrol leadership for a pattern of deadly, escalatory enforcement that has already claimed multiple lives in Minneapolis this month.

Alex Pretti dedicated his life to saving others. He should not have been killed by the government he served.

There must be justice. There must be accountability. Sign now.
