Justice for 5-Year Old Ethan: Hold LCPS accountable after racial harassment

The Issue

I’m posting on behalf of the family of Ethan — a 5-year-old Asian American boy in Loudoun County, Virginia — who was the target of a racially motivated verbal attack right on the porch of his home.      On April 5, 2024, Ethan was standing in front of his house when a student from Eagle Ridge Middle School approached him and used racial slurs and threatening language. This horrific encounter was captured on video and has deeply traumatized Ethan and his family. Despite Ethan’s parents, Ashley and Sean, reporting the incident to both law enforcement and Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), there has been no meaningful disciplinary action taken against the student involved. The school and district leadership have yet to publicly address the incident or offer Ethan’s family any real support. We demand accountability. No child should be subjected to hate, and no parent should have to fight alone to protect their child from racial trauma.

📣 We, the undersigned, call on LCPS and Eagle Ridge Middle School to: Immediately discipline the student responsible for the racial harassment of Ethan.
Issue a public apology to Ethan and his family.
Conduct a transparent investigation into the school’s handling of this case.
Implement mandatory anti-racism and bias training for students, teachers, and staff.
Provide Ethan and his family with access to trauma-informed counseling and support services.
