On Friday, August 19th, 2022, as I was enduring day 14th of my 4th-Hunger Strike outside the UNHCR office and due to lack of a proper response from the organization, despite years of my ongoing protest there, I once again decided on going to the Australian Embassy in order to request Asylum and urgent mediation for ending this ongoing Hostage taking and my complete deprivation in Greece.
In my latest email addressed to the Prime Minister of Australia, Hon Anthony Albanese MP, and Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Hon Andrew Giles MP, sent several days earlier on August 16th, 2022, I had requested an urgent response to this matter by acting on one of the following practical propositions:
- To grant me entry to Australia’s territory and thereby to let me seek Asylum/Protection there upon arrival.
- OR to accept a Refugee Resettlement Application from me without a Resettlement Referral from the UNHCR office and also without the need for acquiring Private Sponsors (Proposers) within Australia.
- OR to issue a formal expression of interest in granting me Asylum which should be addressed to the office of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), so that my Resettlement in Australia through this UN Agency could occur immediately and without any further delays and procrastination whether deliberate or otherwise.
In addition to the above, in my email, I had also asked for an emergency grant on humanitarian grounds to help sustain my life while I have still been kept in waiting for a proper response to this ongoing Humanitarian tragedy in Greece.
This was another reason for going to the Australian Embassy again in order to convey my message to them in person as well.
The Finnish and the Norwegian Embassies which both are located exactly at the same address have also formally been informed last week not only about my impending visit there, but have also been asked to meditate in dealing with this matter and also to consider providing an emergency grant for the same reasons mentioned above.
At the entrance of those Embassies on Friday, I set up my banner first before approaching and announcing my presence there to the receptionist. However, I was not even allowed to enter the building, let alone the reception area or getting a chance to speak with a representative from any of those the Embassies.
The receptionist who left his desk and was standing at the door and blockading my entry to the building, not only refused to let me in, but also declined to convey my messages to any of those Embassies himself.
Along with a Policeman who was already stationed there long before I got there, they called the Police to come and take me away without the slightest regard about why I was there and for what reason.
About a dozen Police officers with Patrol Car and Motorcycles arrived at the scene shortly after, took me to the Syntagma Police Station and kept me in detention there for 2-hours before letting me go.
In Greece they are truly seeking to starve me to death and cover the whole thing up as if I didn't exist and my life never mattered at all.
I call on everyone concerned with Human Rights, especially the Rights of Refugees to break their silence against this ongoing atrocity in Greece.
The least you could do is to spread the word, sign my online Petition and make a Donation now if you can.
If you are Australian, please ask your government, your representatives in the Parliament and/or in the Senate of Australia to act with sympathy, understanding and compassion in responding to this pressing Humanitarian appeal as urgently as possible.
