The Issue

YouTube has gone too far. People, including myself, have been subjected to 90 seconds of unskippable ads, and it is infuriating. What's more, YouTube blames these intrusive interruptions on "technical difficulties" or "glitches." But how believable is this excuse coming from a multi-billion dollar company with robust resources and technology? Surely, such "bugs" would have been resolved promptly if they were truly accidental.

But it doesn't stop there. YouTube has allowed extremely inappropriate ads to be shown on its platform. These advertisements slip through the cracks and end up in front of young, impressionable children, despite the supposed safeguarding measures. The platform's ad system has frequently shown content that is not only unsuitable but sometimes borderline illegal, depending on regional laws. From risqué NSFW promotions to so-called "kid-friendly" games, which are anything but, YouTube has consistently turned a blind eye in its pursuit of profit. And to sum it all up, they removed the block button for ads, which means that even if you report the ad, you will still see it.

This is not the YouTube we signed up for. We wanted a place to share, learn, and be entertained, not to be bombarded with intrusive and inappropriate advertising. It's time we demand accountability from YouTube.

The goal of this petition is to urge YouTube and its parent company, Google, to reevaluate and enforce stricter ad guidelines. Implementing more thorough screening processes for ad suitability and repairing whatever technical "glitches" are used as excuses for these 90-second interruptions would show a commitment to improving the user experience. Let’s ask for transparency in how ads are screened and an outright ban on unskippable ads surpassing a reasonable length.

Your support can help bring about this change. By signing this petition, you are taking a stand against YouTube's unchecked practices and advocating for a safer, more user-friendly, and kid-safe platform for everyone. But only if you add your voice and advocate to demand accountable action and responsible advertising on YouTube.
