JustGiving: Waive your fees on donations to Grenfell Tower victims

The nation is united in shock and grief following the unprecedented and tragic fire at Grenfell Tower this week. Hundreds of people have lost their homes and all their possessions, not to mention their friends, family members and loved ones. Their loss is unimaginable and there has been a huge outpouring of public sympathy across the UK.
As well as generous donations of clothes, toys and other essentials, huge numbers people have also donated their hard earned cash to help the victims in the wake of this heartbreaking tragedy. Much of this cash has been donated via fundraising and crowdfunding pages set up on JustGiving.com. Donations via JustGiving.com are reported to total over £2.3M so far, with much more expected to be raised in the coming days and weeks.
However, JustGiving charges a fee of 5% of all donations received (including GiftAid) and also charges a minimum 1.25% payment processing fee. Using the £2.3M figure as an example and adding GiftAid to that, JustGiving's fees would total approximately £180,000.
Given the sheer unprecedented scale of this tragedy and the unimaginable grief and loss that the victims are suffering, we are calling on JustGiving to waive its fees so that the full amount of money generously donated by those who are so very shocked and moved by what's happened will go directly to the victims. We consider it entirely inappropriate to capitalise on this tragedy and monetise people's empathy and generosity.
