The Issue

Hello families and friends of the San Mateo Foster City School District! My daughter, Adrienne, currently is in 2nd grade at College Park Elementary and is leading a petition to make school lunches healthier and reduce microplastics in the food and packaging. Please read her handwritten message to the principal and consider supporting this young advocacy leader! She is collecting physical signatures from her schoolmates, and we are spreading the word here. Thanks in advance for your support!

Dear Principal Cheung,

My name is Adrienne Wang. I’m in 2nd grade room 8. This is a petition to change the school lunch to be healthy and be safe for our growing bodies.

First, the food is wrapped and heated in plastic. The melted microplastics are bad for us to eat because it can cause cancer.

Second, I noticed there is a lot of food waste maybe because many students don’t think the lunch that is served is tasty.

Third, the lunch that is served is processed foods like microwavable pizza, corn dogs, and hamburgers. These are not healthy foods to eat!

Also, plastics are bad for our environment! We should be taking care of the earth.

I would like to partner with you and the school district to change the food program to be healthier. Let’s make a difference together by finding a good solution. Maybe we can find different food suppliers that support my healthy mission.

I look forward to working with you!

Here are signatures from my College Park friends who support this petition.

Sincerely,

Adrienne Wang
