Jeffery Lee was executed Thursday. Thank you for speaking up for him.

Alabama executed Jeffery Lee on Thursday evening. He was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m. at Holman Correctional Facility. He was 49.

His last words were: "All is well, I just want to say to my family, I love them. To my brothers on life row, I love them."

Thank you to everyone here who called Governor Ivey's office, signed the petitions and shared his story after our updates this week. Jeffery knew people were speaking for him.

Thank you to his attorneys, who fought for him in every court to the final hours, and to his family, who carried the heaviest part of this.

We also hold Jimmy Ellis and Elaine Thompson and their families. They lost people they loved in 1998.

Jeffery's jury voted 7–5 for life without parole. A judge overrode that vote. Alabama ended judicial override in 2017 but did not apply the change to people already sentenced, so more than two dozen men remain on death row under sentences their juries never chose. That is where this fight goes next.

Jeffery asked us to stay in the fight. We will.
